On October 26 and 27, the museum hosted the interregional conference “Regional Art Collections. History and modernity”.
The conference was held in a mixed format and was timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the Voronezh Art Museum, established in 1933.
Regional museums are an extremely important layer of national cultural heritage. Art collections outside the capitals are much less likely to fall into the field of vision of the general public and even specialists. The history of art remains incomplete without knowledge and introduction to the scientific and cultural circulation of this material. The purpose of the conference is to discuss important events in the history of art collections outside the capitals, identifying common patterns, revealing the riches of these collections, paying attention to the peculiarities of their work and current problems.
I.N. Kramskoy VOHM held a scientific conference for the first time in 40 years. From the very first year, the event acquired an interregional character – representatives of various museums and educational organizations – the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the All-Russian Art Research and Restoration Center named after I. E. Grabar, the Pskov Art Gallery, the Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev, Chelyabinsk State Museum of Fine Arts, Voronezh State Pedagogical University and other institutions.
At the plenary session, welcoming speeches and reports were made by the Minister of Culture of the Voronezh Region Maria Mazur, the director of the Museum Yulia Zaichenko, the academic Secretary, advisor to the Rector of the VSU Vladimir Listengarten and the head of the consulting and methodological interaction with museums of the State Russian Museum Marina Krasovitova.
The main question that this exhibition answers is how the museum actually works? The sections of the exhibition “Storage”, “Acquisition”, “Restoration”, “Research”, “Presentation” tell about different aspects of museum work, about how year after year, decade after decade, despite any difficulties and losses, the museum continued to collect, store, study and present the collection to its visitors.
The exhibition was opened by the Minister of Culture of the Voronezh region Maria Mazur, the director of the museum Yulia Zaichenko and the curator of the exhibition, the scientific secretary of the museum Natalia Bakina.
The director of the museum noted that the central hall of the permanent exhibition – Romanovsky – was allocated for the new exhibition. Such an exposition decision has not been made in the last 30-40 years. In addition, Yulia Nikolaevna expressed her gratitude to everyone who worked on the exhibition: museum staff, contractors and the artist of the exhibition – Mikhail Viktorov.
The Minister of Culture congratulated everyone on the opening of the main anniversary exhibition of the year dedicated to the history and existence of the museum. Maria Alexandrovna drew attention to the fact that all sections of the exhibition should be carefully studied and be sure to listen to the tour of the curator of the exhibition.
Natalia Bakina noted that this exhibition wanted to tell about the inner workings of the museum, which is not always visible to visitors: “While working on the exhibition, I could not get rid of the well-known phrase “To stand still, you need to run, and to move forward, you need to run twice as fast.” The museum is often presented as a standard of stability, but how much work is invested in ensuring that everything remains stable. I wanted to show the work of my colleagues, what we are doing to collect, preserve, “heal” our works and tell them about them in an interesting way.”
Recall that the exhibition is located on the 2nd floor of the permanent exhibition of the museum and will last until December 10.
The cost of tickets to the exhibition:
Entrance fee – 200 rubles.
Preferential (schoolchildren, pensioners, students) – 100 rubles.

Lighting equipment has been replaced in the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy. The renovation was made possible thanks to the national project “Culture”.
New compact focussed track lamps were installed in the painting hall of Italy, England and France, as well as in the art hall of Ancient Egypt. After several days of technical work, the halls of the museum are illuminated by more than 120 modern floodlights.
“Museum lighting is a special skill that requires knowledge of modern technologies and a creative approach. The standards of interior lighting of shops or offices cannot be applied in the exhibition space. It is thanks to proper lighting that we can provide comfortable conditions for viewing exhibits, focus on important details and create the necessary museum atmosphere,” Scientific Secretary Natalia Evgenievna Bakina.
