The museum received new stock equipment

October 19, 2023

The Voronezh Regional Art Museum received new stock equipment. Fireproof cabinets for storing documents were acquired through the implementation of the national project “Culture”. The new storage system will house the documentation of the art museum for the last 90 years.

“The purchase of special stock equipment is extremely important for the preservation of cultural heritage. Specifically, these cabinets currently house numerous museum documentation. After all, the department of funds is not only the storage of art objects. This is also their documentation, cataloging, the history of admission and study. Prior to that, the documents were stored in outdated cabinets, which caused difficulties when using them” – chief curator of the museum Maria Marina.

Two canvases of Nicholas Roerich went to Moscow

October 19, 2023

Two paintings by Nicholas Roerich from the collection of the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy will be presented at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).

Nikolai Roerich created “The Morning of the Princely Hunt” and “Return from Hunting” in Paris in 1901, and after returning to Russia, the paintings took part in the Spring Exhibition at the Academy of Arts. After the show, the work was acquired by Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna and until 1919 the diptych decorated the estate in Olgino. Later the paintings were transferred to the museum. According to one version, Nicholas Roerich wanted to buy the “Prince’s Hunt” from the Oldenburg family when he was preparing for one of his personal exhibitions. However, the new owners of the paintings refused to sell them.

The diptych “Prince’s Hunt” was included in the “Slavic cycle” of Nicholas Roerich. All the paintings in this series are characterized by decorativeness and a certain ornamental generality, which allows you to focus on the holistic perception of the canvas. In these works, the artist used a muted color scheme.

Both panels became widely known to the Russian and Western public for reproductions in publications of the beginning of the XX century. Moreover, the panel “Morning of the Princes of the Hunt” was printed much more often — sometimes under the simple name “Hunting”, but the second panel, “evening”, was published only twice.

Exhibition “Nicholas Roerich”
(October 10, 2023 — March 10, 2024)

This is a large-scale exhibition project of the Tretyakov Gallery dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947).

The exhibition will include works of art and documentary materials. The audience will see over a hundred paintings and graphic sheets — from the famous masterpieces of early creativity “Messenger” and “Overseas Guests” to the works of the Indian period “Guga Chohan” and “Chenrazi”. Roerich will be presented not only as a “master of mountains” who created easel works, but also as an artist who successfully realized his talent in theater and architecture.

The sensation of the exhibition will be the first demonstration for the public of the magnificent theatrical backdrop made by Nicholas Roerich in 1908 for the ballet Polovtsian Dances, which was staged in Paris as part of the first season of the famous entreprise “The Russian Ballet of Sergei Diaghilev”.

October 19, 2023

On April 13, the grand opening of the exhibition of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli “The Joy of Life” took place.

The exhibition, which presented 33 paintings, 21 three-dimensional enamel and 2 sculptures, was opened by the head of the Department of Culture Maria Mazur, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoly Lyubavin, Director of the Voronezh Art School Sergey Gulevsky and Director of the Museum Yulia Zaichenko.

“Our museum is proud of its long-standing friendship with this great man. This is far from the first exhibition of the master here, but it is especially pleasant that in the year of the 90th anniversary of the museum, Zurab Konstantinovich and his team readily responded to the offer to bring the works to the exhibition in Voronezh” – Yu.N. Zaichenko.

Maria Alexandrovna noted that the name of Zurab Tsereteli is known all over the world. The head of the Department of Culture expressed confidence that this exhibition will become one of the most visited exhibition events of the year.

Anatoly Lyubavin stressed that all the works of Zurab Tsereteli are extremely open to the viewer. The artist loves life, loves people and talks about it every day in his works.

In addition to the wonderful exhibition, which will delight Voronezh residents until May 28, Zurab Konstantinovich donated two of his works to the museum: a graphic sheet “Sheets from the album” and a sculpture “Citizen”. They will occupy an important place in the collection of the I.N. Kramskoy VOHM.

Recall that the exhibition “Joy of Life” will be open until May 28, 2023.

The museum opened the exhibition of Meer Axelrod “The German Occupation”

October 19, 2023

On the eve of Victory Day, the museum opened an exhibition of graphics by Meer Axelrod “The German Occupation” (12+). Most of the works were created in 1942-1943: the paintings appeared to be “copied” from the stories of refugees from Poland and Belarus about the atrocities taking place in the occupied territories. The purpose of this exhibition is not only to tell visitors about the difficult days for our country, but also to preserve the memory of the martyrdom and heroism of the people of the USSR, who faced the horrors of occupation and concentration camps in those years.

The exposition presented about 50 graphic works by Meer Axelrod. Among them, the painting “Prisoner” is the only lifetime portrait of the leader of the legendary uprising in the Nazi death camp Sobibor Alexander Pechersky.

The collection presented at the exhibition is a unique artistic testimony to the martyrdom and heroism of the peoples of the USSR in the territories occupied by the Nazis.

The exhibition is provided by the Alexander Pechersky Memorial Foundation.

The exhibition will be open until May 21, 2023.

Tickets are available on the Pushkin map.
