“Divorced by the War of Paint” is a virtual exhibition jointly prepared in the year of the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people over fascist Germany by the art museums of Altai, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Mogilev, Murmansk, Simferopol and Stavropol.
The exhibition shows various art collections and works by artists of different periods and styles on the theme of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
All material is divided into thematic groups, united by the image of a soldier, namely: soldier’s feat, humanism, home, triumph, return, memory.
The exhibition is addressed to the widest audience.
Among the artists there were many volunteers who went to the front in the early days of the war. The war gave rise to a new concept – a front-line artist and redefined the meaning and purpose of his profession.
In between fights with pencil and paper in their hands, frontline artists performed combat missions: they produced newspapers, posters, and cartoons. Many submitted reports asking them to be sent to the places of military operations. So in Voronezh in 1942 were Moscow artists Vladimir Bogatkin and Vitaly Demidov. Their front-line drawings from the collection of VOHM them. I.N. Kramskoy are unique historical evidence of the true tragedy of Voronezh during the war years.
