On January 19, at 16:00, the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy will open an exhibition of paintings and graphic works “Those who gave us peace and beauty” (0+), dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Voronezh from the Nazi invaders.
The date of January 25 is special for Voronezh residents. It was on this day in 1943 that the troops of the 60th Army under the command of General Ivan Chernyakhovsky, during the Voronezh-Kastorn offensive operation, finally drove the Nazi invaders out of our city. The very next day, after 212 days of bloody battles, residents began to return to the city destroyed by more than 90%, and the date of January 25 became the second birthday of Voronezh.
The exhibition of Voronezh front-line artists who not only gave us the world, but also captured the beauty of this world, is timed to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Voronezh from the Nazi invaders. The hardships of the front–line years, the joy of Victory, peaceful working days, the beauty of his native land and beloved city – all this is reflected in the art of talented masters of painting and graphics.
The exhibition includes paintings by V.P. Krivoruchko, M.I. Likhachev, G.A. Goncharov, P.I. Sholokhov, A.P. Eremenko, V.K. Komolov, Z.E. Popov, M.F. Frolov, graphics by N.B. Vasilenko, S.D. Legeni. The exhibition also includes graphic works by Moscow frontline artists V.V. Bogatkin and V.A. Demidov, painted in 1942-1943 in the destroyed Voronezh.
In total, about 120 works will be presented at the exhibition.

On February 2, at 16:00 in the space of the museum’s small exhibition hall (3rd floor of the permanent exhibition), the exhibition «Museum during the War» will open, timed to two dates at once – the 90th anniversary of the museum and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Voronezh from the Nazi invaders.
In the difficult years 1941 – 1942 for the country, the rescue of cultural values was a difficult and dangerous task. Experiencing grief together with everyone, the staff of the art museum during the war years did everything possible to save their collections – the cultural and scientific heritage of the country. Fortunately, our generation is familiar with the Great Patriotic War only from books, history textbooks and photographs. We didn’t experience it and didn’t see it, so we can’t judge what the people who worked at the museum felt at that time. Their records describing the events of those terrible days speak most eloquently about this. Priceless records of people with whom we are united by a place – our museum.
At the exhibition dedicated to two anniversaries, visitors will be able to see firsthand the feat of people who, without sparing their health and lives, saved unique works of art. Using the example of photographs, documents and memories of eyewitnesses and participants of those tragic events, everyone will be able to lift the veil of time separating us from those terrible years. Special attention will be paid to those parts of the collections that could not be saved. The lost objects, the meager information about which has reached us only in the form of a few lines on the worn pages of pre-war documents or general black-and-white photos of exhibition halls, could become the pearls of modern museum collections.
The exhibition-a story about how the museum survived the war – is a reminder that the hardest historical experience continues to influence us today, makes us think about a lot and can teach us a lot.
The exhibition will last until March 12, 2023.
Ticket price:
Single entrance ticket – 150 rubles.
Photography: mobile devices, camera (without flash) – free of charge.

In 2023, the Voronezh Regional Art Museum celebrates its 90th anniversary. This event is dedicated to a series of exhibitions under the general title “Peers of the Museum”, which will present paintings from our collections created in 1933, the year the museum was founded.
The first of the series will be an exhibition of Efim Cheptsov’s painting “Social Competition at the Svetlana factory”. On the canvas, the artist reflected the everyday day of one of the largest production facilities in Leningrad, whose laboratory received the status of an industry in 1933, and the enterprise became the main scientific, technical and production center of Soviet electronics.
Efim Mikhailovich Cheptsov (1874-1950) painted paintings reflecting the lives of workers, peasants, and teachers. He devoted a lot of time to cultural and educational work among fellow countrymen: he designed and held holidays, read popular lectures on fine arts, led a theater circle, where he was both a director and an actor.
Now the artist’s works are kept in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, regional museums and private collections.
The painting presented at the exhibition was purchased by the museum from the author in 1937.
You can get acquainted with the painting in the hall of Soviet painting with a ticket to the permanent exhibition of the museum.
The exhibition will run from February 15 to March 12, 2023.
