The museum has begun work on the exposition of the hall of the art of Antiquity

October 19, 2023

By the end of the jubilee year, the museum will present a new exhibition “Antique Art”. The number of exhibits will increase, the theme of the exposition will expand, and the technical equipment will also change: new exposition equipment will be purchased within the framework of the national project “Culture”.

Now preparatory scientific work is underway. Employees of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts Olga Tugusheva (Deputy Head of the Department of Art and Archeology of the Ancient World) and Olga Samar (senior researcher at the Department of Art and Archeology of the Ancient World) are studying the entire Voronezh antique collection. The curator of the project from the Voronezh Art Museum is Natalia Bakina (Academic Secretary).

At the first stage, as a result of the joint work of Moscow colleagues with Voronezh, the selection of future exhibits takes place, their attributions are clarified, and the thematic plan of the new exposition is formed. During the week, researchers will examine more than 500 items of the museum’s collection of Ancient art. The I.N. Kramskoy VOHM and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts have signed a cooperation agreement.

“The exposition of ancient art, familiar to museum visitors, with minor changes, has existed for more than 50 years, since 1966. It seems that this fact most clearly highlights the urgent need for changes in the display of the rarest objects of archeology,” Director of the I.N. Kramskoy VOHM Yulia Zaichenko.

The lighting equipment was replaced in the museum

October 19, 2023

Lighting equipment has been replaced in the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy. The renewal took place thanks to the national project “Culture”.

On two floors of the museum’s exhibition hall, old lighting fixtures were completely dismantled and new busbars and track LED spotlights were installed. After several days of technical work, the hall was illuminated by the light of more than 150 new lamps.

Up to 20 multi-genre exhibitions are held annually in the museum’s exhibition hall. Temporary exhibitions include both works from the collection of the Voronezh Museum and paintings from the collections of the largest Russian museums. Special lighting plays a significant role in the visitor’s perception of the exhibition as a whole. It allows you to emphasize the uniqueness of each exhibit, place certain semantic accents and form the space of the exposition itself.

“Good museum lighting should not only meet aesthetic requirements and be comfortable for the audience, but also meet certain technical requirements for the exhibition of museum objects. The lighting system, which was installed in the exhibition hall 15 years ago, has now ceased to meet the changing requirements. The new lighting equipment will make it more profitable to present exhibition projects and will be safe and careful for the exhibits” – Oksana Lepneva, head of the exposition and exhibition Department of the museum.

Exhibition from the series «Opening funds» «Graphics of Vladimir Milashevsky»

October 18, 2023

On October 17, an exhibition from the series “Opening Funds” “Graphics by Vladimir Milashevsky”, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the artist’s birth, will begin work in the hall of Russian Art of the XX–XXI centuries.

Milashevsky Vladimir Alekseevich (1893-1976) – painter, graphic artist, author of landscapes, portraits, works of everyday genre, illustrator. Milashevsky ‘s memoirs belong to the pen: “Yesterday, the day before yesterday. Memoirs of the artist” and “My work in the publishing house “Academia””.

Vladimir Alekseevich was born in Tbilisi in 1893. He studied in Saratov and Kharkiv. From 1913 to 1915 he studied at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts. He was a member of the creative associations “World of Art”, “4 arts” and was one of the organizers of the group of artists “13”. Alexander Benois, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, Konstantin Somov had a special influence on the artist’s creative views.

As a Saratov gymnasium student, Vladimir Alekseevich read Alexander Benois’s feuilletons in the St. Petersburg newspaper “Speech”, admired Somov’s paintings and argued with his lawyer father, who considered miriskussnikov decadents. From an early age, the artist was deeply alien to “official” academism, static form. Later, as one of the leaders of the group “13”, which united mainly graphic artists, Milashevsky advocated free, lively drawing from nature, correlated with the rhythms of life itself.

Portraits, landscapes, everyday scenes executed by the artist in the 1920s and 1930s are distinguished by the accuracy of characteristics, the sharpness of details, and a sense of time. Milashevsky developed a special “tempo method” – instantly executed, sometimes not even with a pen, but with a match, dynamic and emotional drawing.

As noted by the writer Konstantin Fedin:  “Milashevsky has this special guessing of the whole in his landscapes, along with hunting for details.”

The portrait of the writer Isaac Babel presented in the exhibition is made by the “tempo method” – ink using a match. “I will keep this match with baked black ink,” Babel said when the drawing was finished.

Interest in graphics led Milashevsky to book illustration. It is to this area that his most famous works belong: drawings for the “Posthumous Notes of the Pickwick Club” by Charles Dickens, “Father Goriot” by Honore de Balzac, “Madame Bovary”  Gustave Flaubert, excellent illustrations for Pushkin’s fairy tales, for Pyotr Ershov’s The Humpbacked Horse, and Pavel Bazhov’s Ural fairy tales.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Milashevsky gave his strength to military graphics: from October 1941 to May 1945, he was an artist of “Windows TASS”.

The work of Vladimir Alekseevich Milashevsky is closely intertwined with the contradictory and complex history of the twentieth century: it combines the search for new forms characteristic of modernity and a deep genuine interest in man, characteristic of realistic art.

In the collection of the I. N. Kramskoy VOHM there are more than a hundred paintings and graphic works of the artist. This exhibition will present about 10 works of the master.

The exhibition will run from October 17 to November 26 and will be located on the second floor of the permanent exhibition of the museum in the hall of Russian art of the XX–XXI centuries.

Entrance to the exhibition is carried out by a ticket to the permanent exhibition of the museum.

October 18, 2023

With the blessing of Metropolitan Sergius of Voronezh and Liskin, the head of the Voronezh Metropolia, an exhibition of icons dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the birth of St. Mitrofan, the first bishop of Voronezh, will open at the I.N. Kramskoy Art Museum.

The first Voronezh bishop proved himself to be a strong manager, a leader whose opinion was listened to, an associate of the tsar, but at the same time in everyday life he was very modest, meek, lived on the verge of poverty. In his “Spiritual Testament”, St. Mitrofan edified: “For every person, this is the rule of wise men: use labor, keep moderation — you will be rich; drink abstinently, eat little — you will be healthy; do good, run away from evil — you will be saved.” The exhibition “The Rule of Faith and the image of Meekness” will tell about the life of St. Mitrofan as a man who devoted himself to the service of the Church.

More than 100 icons of the exhibition will introduce guests to the private collections of icons of the children’s and family recreation park “NELZHA.<url>” and Alexey Konyushenko. In addition to icons, the exhibition will feature items related to St. Mitrofan.

Exhibition «Voronezh Palace. History and Architecture» (0+)

October 18, 2023

On October 13, at 16:00, the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy will open the exhibition «Voronezh Palace. History and architecture». On the opening day, from 16:00 to 17:00, admission to the exhibition is free.

This exhibition will be the final event of the mobile poster project, which the viewer could see throughout the year in places of tourist attraction.

The elegant “Voronezh Palace” has been decorating the city for almost 250 years. Epochs and people changed, the building passed from private hands to the military department, became a hospital and a museum, went through repairs and devastation, but invariably remained one of the main attractions of Voronezh.

The house-palace was erected in 1777-1779 as the personal residence of Lieutenant General Ivan Alekseevich Potapov by architect Nikolai Nikitovich Ievsky. So in Voronezh, which in those years was recovering after the worst fire of August 1773, a building appeared that so strongly resembles the palaces of St. Petersburg.

For more than two centuries, the palace has changed externally and internally – the office premises were rebuilt, the plans of the interior rooms were changed, but one thing remained unchanged – the building certainly attracted the enthusiastic glances of citizens and guests of the city.

Old archival photographs and watercolor drawings, reproductions of which will be presented at the exhibition, depict the architectural appearance of the only palace-type building in the city. The chronologically arranged images created by artists, architects and photographers will take you through the centuries and tell you about the monument located in the heart of historical Voronezh.

Exhibition “Voronezh Palace. History and Architecture” for the first time presents the building as an independent subject of research. The exhibition will include more than 60 reproductions and photographs from the collections of the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy, the Voronezh Regional Museum of Local Lore, the State Inspectorate of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Voronezh Region, the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the A.V. Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture.

The exhibition will be located in a small exhibition hall (3rd floor of the main building) and will last until November 12.

Cost:
Entrance ticket – 150 rubles.
Discounted ticket (schoolchildren, pensioners, students) – 100 rubles.
