December 13, 2021

On December 24, at 12.00 o’clock, an online lecture “Willems de Vet the Elder“ Procession to Calvary ”(from the series“ On the attribution of one picture. Before and after … ”) will take place in the VKontakte museum group.

A true gem of the collection of 17th century Dutch painting at the Voronezh Kramskoy Museum is the painting of the Harlem artist Jacobs Willems de Weth the Elder “Procession to Calvary”, made using the oil painting technique on wood. Since 1933, the work has been on display in a permanent exhibition in a special box on which the word “REMBRANDT” is written in capital Latin letters, arousing the keen interest of both specialists and a wide range of spectators. In this regard, the history of the study of the painting, which continues to the present time, is indicative.

Why was the authorship of Rembrandt supplied by the staff of the State Hermitage I.V. Linnik and Yu.I. Kuznetsov questioned? Which work of Willems de Weth the Elder is stylistically and compositionally close to the “Voronezh painting” and in which European collection is it presented?
You can get answers to these and other questions at the museum lecture.

Lecturer – Senior Researcher of the Valery Meremianina.

Exhibition “Fish-Art” (0+)

December 2, 2021

December 16, 2021 on the second floor of the VOKhM exhibition hall named after I.N. Kramskoy, the exhibition “Fish-art” will open, presenting the image of fish in painting and graphics of the 17th – 20th centuries from the funds of the VOKhM them. I.N. Kramskoy.

The retrospective exhibition presents more than 20 paintings and graphic works in the genres of still life and subject-thematic graphics, demonstrating a variety of creative approaches within the framework of one main theme and genre.

The symbolism of fish includes many different meanings. Since ancient times, fish has been associated with the element of water, as well as with Teachers, Saviors of the world, progenitors, and wisdom. In the mythologies of various peoples, water is the beginning, the initial state of all that exists, the source of life. In early Christianity, the fish was adopted as a symbol of Christ by many church fathers. It was the fisherman brothers who became the first disciples of Jesus, who told them that they would be “fishers of men.”

The exhibition “Fish-art” introduces the work of Western European, Soviet and Russian artists in the genre of still life with fish, as well as genre graphics of similar themes in the fine arts of the 17th-20th centuries. The main attention in the exposition is paid to the works of the artists of the USSR and the Central Black Earth Region of the 1940-1980s. All of them were united by the desire to express the symbolism of the fish theme by artistic means, without going beyond the framework of the concept of realistic art, traditional for the Soviet period. Painterly and graphic works are made in various techniques and reflect different directions of creative searches within the genre of still life.

The exhibition “Fish-art” is designed to show visitors the existence of the image of a fish in the creative search of artists of different eras and generations, among which the Voronezh authors are not lost: A.P. Davydov, M.F. Mamey, A.A. Nebolsin, V.A. Presnyakov, K.M. Stakhovsky, A.P. Khoduk, E.B. Khoroshilov, P.I. Sholokhov, B.V. Yanin and others. Some works from the funds of the museum will be presented to visitors for the first time.

A single ticket is valid for visiting the exhibition, which makes it possible to visit the Art Geography of Russia project.

The exhibition will run until January 16, 2022.

Exhibition “0.8” (0+)

December 3, 2021

December 17, 2021 at 16.00 in the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after V.I. I.N. Kramskoy, the opening of the exhibition “0.8”. The exhibition has been prepared by the creative association “AzArt” and is dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Wassily Kandinsky.

100 years ago, a new artistic language was born, later called the Russian avant-garde. The most radical event was the writing of a white square by Kazimir Malevich, which claimed to become a point in pictorial art.

At the same time, another great Russian artist – Wassily Kandinsky, whose 155th birthday is celebrated on December 16, – was also moving towards painting the last picture, which would have ended an imaginary museum started by the Italian school in the 13th century.

Today we know for sure that art has not stopped and the last picture has not been painted. But the idea that the main thing in a picture is not realism, but composition, color, space, are more alive than all living things.

The artists of the AzArt association investigated the possibility of combining the immortal (despite the assertions of the avant-garde) classics and artistic methods of the early 20th century. Ten participants of the exhibition “0.10”, which canceled the entire past in 1915, are answered by eight artists of the exhibition “0.8” from 2021. 8 – as a symbol of infinity, continuity, eternity of art.

They began the countdown from the origins of Russian art, a transitional form from icon to portrait – parsuna, made in the style of the founder of Russian futurzim David Burliuk. The connection of two beginnings!

Further, the Yugoslav landscape and the classic “Still Life with Bat Game and Fruit” were refracted by a bright, bold, cheerful vision in the style of Larionov and Mashkov.

Pavel Filonov’s idea that a person is the crossroads of all roads, superimposed on the portrait of I. Kramskoy’s wife and daughter, the formation of the fourth – radiant-energy – dimension of Mikhail Larionov’s painting in Kuindzhi’s painting, developed an abstract reflection on the nature of things.

Even more abstract forms of cubo-futurism in the spirit of Alexandra Exter are given to Breakfast by Claes Pieter. The beloved “Marusya” by Elena Kiseleva acquired the signs of an icon taken from Malevich’s peasant cycle.

And they conclude the exhibition “Summer Residents” by Elena Kiseleva in the completely abstract synesthetic style of Wassily Kandinsky.

A total of 8 works will be presented at the exhibition.

Dialogue with colleagues at the beginning of the 20th century, meeting with the origins, accepting their position enriched the experience of artists who previously worked mainly in the classical manner, allowed them to go beyond the usual framework, to find new forms for artistic expression.

Exhibition visit cost:

The entrance ticket is 200 rubles.
Reduced entrance ticket (pensioners, schoolchildren, students) – 100 rubles.
