Kljunder Aleksandr Ivanovich

Alexander Ivanovich Kljunder (Klinder) – Russian artist-watercolourist.

He was born in a tailor’s family. He studied at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Dorpat. Simultaneously, under the guidance of the artist-engraver KA. Zenff took lessons in the engraving technique on copper, he studied at the classes of the Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1824 he was awarded the title of a free artist of portrait miniature watercolor painting. He worked in Tallinn as a miniature artist and a drawing teacher. In 1827, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the University of Dorpat, he produced a series of professorial portraits on six pages.

The artist wrote a series of portraits of officers of the Life Guards Regiment of the Hussar Regiment, commissioned by the hussars, who wished to present a memorable gift to their regimental commander, General MG. Khomutov, who at that time was transferring to a new service in Novocherkassk. All the people portrayed were about 60 people, among whom was M.Yu. Lermontov. The artist created three portraits of the poet in the period of 1838-1840, when Lermontov, returning from the first Caucasian exile, served in the Life Guards Guards Regiment, stationed in Tsarskoe Selo.

For each of the portrayed artists made several images, and, in addition, by order of the Life Guards AL. Potapova, V.A. Menshikov and V.D. Bakaev, he carried out several dozen portraits of their regimental comrades. Most of the collection of M.G. Khomutov is in the collections of the State Hermitage and the Pavlovsky Palace Museum, the collection of V.D. Bakaeva – in the Museum of the Institute of Russian Literature in St. Petersburg. A collection of the same portraits, formerly used by the Life Hussar V.А. Menshikov, unfortunately, did not survive.

A collection belonging to the regimental comrade Lermontov AL Potapov, right up until the October Revolution, was in his estate “Semidubravnoe” (now the village of Novaya Pokrovka). After the revolution, it was transported to the Voronezh Provincial Museum, and in 1933 was transferred to the Museum of Fine Arts (now the Kramskoye Military Academy), in whose collection it is kept to this day.

Subsequently, A. Klünder created drawings for the “Historical Description of Clothes and Arms of Russian Warriors”, painted portraits of Emperor Nicholas I, Count M.N. Musina-Pushkin, Prince M.B. Lobanov-Rostovsky, Prince D.P. Volkonsky and other representatives of the Moscow aristocracy.

In the 1840-1850-ies, the artist carried out orders for a series of portraits of officers of the Life Guards Cavalry and Cavalry Regiments. He was engaged in teaching painting lessons in St. Petersburg.

The artist died in 1874 in Reval.

Ryazhsky George Georgievich

Georgiy Ryazhsky is a Russian painter, Honored Artist of Russia, member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia.

Georgiy Ryazhsky was born in the village of Ignatyev, Moscow province, in the family of a peasant. His first art education was in the drawing class of the Moscow Prechisten evening classes for workers. Among the artists, these courses were called the People’s Academy of Arts, since they allowed young men and girls from the common people to become art workers.

In the first world war, Ryazhsky was drafted into the army. After demobilization, Ryazhsky worked in parts of the Red Army, wrote posters, made out revolutionary festivities. For some time he studied under K. Malevich in the State Free Art Workshops, reorganized in VHUTEMAS.

In 1923, Ryazhsky joined the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AHRR, since 1928 – AXR: Association of Artists of the Revolution). The artist took an active part in the struggle to implement the slogan of the Association “Art – to the masses!”. As a Communist artist, as a principled public figure, he enjoyed great authority. His best works, created at the turn of the twenties and thirties, entered the history of Soviet art as historical documents of the era.

Most of all, Ryazhsky’s talent manifested itself in the portrait genre. The main theme of his work was the Soviet woman as an active builder of socialism. Thanks to his works: “Rabfakovka”, “Pechatnitsa”, “Delegate”, “Chairwoman”, “Tractor driver”, “Teacher”, “Skier”, “Zheleznodorozhnitsa”, a new image of a Soviet female citizen entered the history of Soviet art. In all these portraits, the artist shows the character of a Soviet woman, her active role in the public life of the country.

A.E. Arkhipov, who closely followed the successes of the youth, repeatedly noted the female portraits of Ryazhsky, saying at the same time:

“I see in my own way, and I have other tasks, and Ryazhsky is right. He has modern women. ”

Georgy Ryazhsky took part in a number of international exhibitions. In 1938, his paintings “Delegate” and “Chairman” received an honorable award – a great gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris.

His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Kiev Museum of Russian Art; Rostov Museum of Fine Arts and other collections.

Nilus, Peter Alexandrovich

Painter, art critic and writer Pyotr Alexandrovich Nilus was born in the village Boucheny Podolsk province. In 1876, the family moved to Odessa, and the following year young Peter was given to the real school of St. Peter and Paul, but Nilus in the sixth grade left the school and entered the Odessa drawing school, where his teachers were G. Ladyzhensky and K. Kostandi.

Since 1889, he continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts at Ilya Repin, who recommended the young artist to quickly begin exhibition activities and return to his hometown, where he powerfully declared himself a Partnership of South Russian artists.

Returning to Odessa, Nilus actively joined the local artistic life became one of the Central figures of the local artistic community, in1893 he became a member of the southern Russian artists. The painter has participated in almost all exhibitions from 1890 to 1919, and alalbaani of the authors of the Charter of the partnership in 1894.

In the 1890s P. A. Nilus wrote mainly genre paintings on socially significant topics. About this time he recalled: “He was a faithful wanderer for 13 years. Then the evolution from extreme realism to individualism began.” In the first decade of the XX century, after traveling abroad and exploring new contemporary art, the artist moved away from everyday genre and social problems, preferring landscape and impressionistic painting manner. The next period in the work of Nilus – “symbolic and romantic” or “retrospective”: the artist wrote gallant Cavaliers and ladies strolling in parks or meeting the dawn.

The main works of the painter were views of cities, landscapes of the French province, still lifes, which he created a kind of series. The first solo exhibitions of P. A. Nilus in Paris took place in 1925 in the prestigious galleries of J. Petit and J. Charpentier. Great success was the last lifetime exhibition of Nilus in the gallery ” Zak ” in 1934. By the mid-1930s, the artist began to give preference to psychological portrait.

During his life, the painter managed to write a lot of works that are stored in many museums. He died in occupied Paris.

In 1995, a significant part of the creative heritage of the artist’s Paris period 73 paintings, drawings, and personal belongings, photographs, letters, exhibition catalogs by the decision of the painter’s stepdaughter V. L. Golubovskaya, was transferred from Paris to Voronezh.

Lyubimov Alexander Mikhailovich

Alexander Mikhailovich Lyubimov is a Russian and Soviet artist, painter, graphic artist, cartoonist, poster artist, teacher, professor at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin and the Higher School of Art and Industry. VI Mukhina, a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists.

Lyubimov was born in the village of Paltsevo, Kursk province, in the family of a nobleman. Alexander Mihajlovich has devoted many years in the life to study. In 1895 he entered the Central School of Technical Drawing Baron A. Stieglitz. Since 1901 he studied at the Higher Art School under the Imperial Academy of Arts in the personal workshop of Ilya Repin.

After graduating from the Higher Art School under the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1909, the master, on the recommendation of I.E. Repin, who headed the Kharkov Art College, collaborated with the magazine “Theater and Art”, created an extensive gallery of images of theatrical figures of the beginning of the century, among which were Gorky, Chaliapin, Meyerhold, Komissarzhevskaya, Stanislavsky, Sobinovi others.

During the Civil War Lyubimov carried out propaganda panels and posters, executed agitation trains, worked in the Caucasian and Transcaucasian branches of the ROSTA Windows, collaborated with the magazines “Krasnaya Panorama” and “Vokrug Sveta”, and worked in the field of film posters.

The painter participated in exhibitions, painted portraits, genre and historical compositions, landscapes, drew satirical illustrations, theatrical sketches, caricatures. He worked in the technique of oil painting, watercolors, gouache, pastels, pencil drawing.

During the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Lyubimov created anti-Nazi posters, portrayed Hitler and the fascists in a miserable and unattractive form.

The artist’s picturesque manner is distinguished by the richness of tonal relations and perfect drawing, wide free writing, the use of a variety of textures – from pasty-laid color stains to transparent reflexes and shadows creating a volumetric-spatial characteristic of the form.

Works by A.M. Lyubimov is in the State Russian Museum, in the Kursk State Picture Gallery. A.A. Deineka, in the North Ossetian Republican Art Museum. M.S. Tuganov, VOKHM them. I.N. Kramskoy and in other museums, galleries and private collections in Russia, Britain, Germany, Italy, the United States, France and other countries.
