Online exhibition “Eh, frontal path-path” (6+)

August 26, 2020

The virtual exhibition “Eh, frontal path-path” was prepared as part of the “Night of Museums” campaign, the theme of which was the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibition presents graphic works of the front-line correspondent S.D. Legeni from the funds of VOKhM named after I.N. Kramskoy.

Semyon Danilovich Legenya (1905-1994) – Voronezh painter, graphic artist, member of the Union of Artists, participant of the Great Patriotic War. Born in Buturlinovka in 1905, studied at the Voronezh Art and Industry College under A.A. Buchkuri and S.M. Romanovich. He worked as a decorator at the Voronezh Drama Theater, as an artist at the OGPU club and as an artist at the Regional Association “Artist”.

Semyon Legenya walked the roads of war from Novokhopersk to Breslau as part of the formation of the 6th army of the Voronezh, Southwestern and 1st Ukrainian fronts, making sketches of military events, battles, and fellow soldiers. The drawings depict touching human scenes: the life of a soldier at the front, the faces of civilians, scenes of the peaceful life of the liberated cities of Europe and Berlin.

In frontline conditions, Semyon Danilovich managed to save more than a hundred of his own watercolors, pastels, pencil drawings. Most of the works were donated in 2009 by the artist’s daughter to the Voronezh Art Museum. I.N. Kramskoy.

Video tour of the section of the exposition dedicated to Ancient Egyptian art

August 3, 2020

The Bureau of Culture of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow together with the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy has the honor to present the viewer with a new look at the permanent exhibition of the Museum “Ancient Egyptian Art”.

Ancient Egypt is like the cradle in which the modern world was born. Traditions, beliefs, the idea of harmony, the foundations of science and art were laid down in time immemorial. Forming and developing over millennia, they have entered our day.

Cultural ties between Egypt and Russia have developed over the centuries. Pilgrims, travelers, merchants, researchers, scientists year after year enriched our countries with knowledge about each other, discovered new, unexplored places and shared wisdom. All the more valuable for us is the fact that this exceptional collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts has been carefully preserved by the regional Russian museum, the Voronezh Regional Art Museum. I.N. Kramskoy. The wider knowledge about culture spreads, the more faithfully we look to the future. Culture has always been the universal key for long-term and good relationships, and this exhibition has a special, iconic value.

Most of the exhibits were collected by the young traveler and orientalist Otto Friedrich von Richter and traveled a long and wonderful journey before becoming the pride of the museum. Wandering around Egypt, exploring it from north to south during his expedition, writing down what he saw in his travel diary and making incredible historical finds, Richter managed to make a serious contribution to the development of Egyptology. The significance of his enterprise is also evidenced by the fact that, according to the letters of recommendation he presented to the ruler of Egypt, Muhammad Ali, the researcher was given official permission to visit the interior regions of the country.

This truly unique story, sanctified by the idea of enlightenment, thirst for research and romanticism, has left a mark on history. Orientalist and artist, ethnographer and historian of antiquity, Otto Friedrich von Richter created a rare collection, which was later preserved and transferred to the museum of the city of Voronezh.
