Krivoruchko, Vasily Pavlovich

Vasily Pavlovich Krivoruchko-painter, graphic artist, honored worker of culture of the RSFSR, winner of the Sergey Radonezhsky prize, honorary citizen of Voronezh and public figure.

Vasily Pavlovich was born in a large family in the village of Novo-Peschanoe (now Burlin district of the Altai territory).

Childhood of the future artist was not easy. His family fled from starvation in Altai, but hope to find a better life did not materialize. Earnings of the father of a family hardly sufficed to make ends meet therefore in 1926 the family Krivoruchko returned Home – to Donetsk. It was there, in the circle of the city House of culture, 10-year-old Vasily first picked up a brush.

In 1935 Vasily Pavlovich entered the Kharkov art school, where he studied art for 4 years.

The artist participated in the great Patriotic war as the commander of the liaison office of the 12th army of the South-Western front.

In the postwar period, in 1946 Krivoruchko resumed his studies at the Moscow state pedagogical Institute at the art and graphic Department. However, he soon went to Transcarpathia, in the city of Mukachevo, where he continued painting. His mentor was the famous artist J. G. Virag, who once studied in Munich and Paris.

Soon the work of Vasily Pavlovich Krivoruchko received recognition at regional and national exhibitions, he began to exhibit his work in 1937.

The artist moved to Voronezh in 1951. In the 1950s, following the trends of the time, he wrote a lot on “industrial themes”, at the same time was active in public work: he sat in the city Council, headed the art Fund and the Voronezh branch of the Union of artists of the RSFSR, was elected a member of the Soviet Union.

The ideological framework was close to Vasily Pavlovich. His main works were historical cycles. In addition Krivoruchko created a series of works based on trips to Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa.

Vasily Pavlovich is also known as an active fighter for the preservation of historical and cultural monuments. Works of VP Krivoruchko are in the Museum of history of Moscow, Tula Museum of fine arts, Vladimir historical and art Museum-reserve, Pskov Museum-reserve, Krasnodar Museum of fine arts, Novosibirsk art gallery and other Russian museums, as well as in private collections in Finland, Sweden, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the United States.

From 1969 to 2000, more than 40 albums and catalogues of the artist were published, including three sets of postcards with reproductions of his works. The bibliography mentioning it has more than 300 publications.
