Exhibition “Discovering Funds. Graphics by Artists of the Late 19th – Early 20th Century” (0+)

February 17, 2022

Voronezh Regional Art Museum. I.N. Kramskoy continues a series of exhibitions under the general title “Discovering Funds”.

This year, visitors will see exhibitions of graphic works by artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries dedicated to the pedagogical systems of three masters from different countries: Anton Ashbe (Munich), Ilya Repin (Russia), Rodolfo Julian (France).

On March 2, the museum will open an exhibition presenting graphic sheets of students of the Munich school of the Austro-Hungarian artist Anton Ashbe – A.G. Yavlensky, A.D. Piskunova, D.N. Kardovsky, P.D. Shmarova.
There are about 10 works in total.

In 1891, in Munich, the Austro-Hungarian painter-teacher of Slovenian origin Anton Ashbe opened a private art school, which eventually gained worldwide fame. The training system was so original, and the teaching methodology was thought out, that many artists aspired to become Ashbe’s students. Famous Russian masters emerged from the walls of this school: M. Dobuzhinsky, I. Grabar, D. Burliuk, V. Kandinsky, I. Bilibin, A. Yavlensky, M. Verevkina, K. Petrov-Vodkin, D. Kardovsky and others.

It was drawing that Anton Ashbe considered the most important part of art education. An artist who does not have scientific knowledge, according to Ashbe, was captured by nature and became a passive copyist. Therefore, the method of teaching drawing was based on drawing from nature, the study of the objective laws of nature, and a conscious approach to the process of constructing an image.

The visit to the exhibition is carried out with a ticket for the permanent exhibition of the museum.

The exhibition will run until April 24, 2022.
