September 3, 2018

September 13, 2018 at 16.00 hours in the exhibition hall of the VOKHM them. I.N. Kramskoy held a grand opening of the exhibition “People and things. To the 100th anniversary of VGU. ”

100 years ago in Voronezh, together with employees and property, the Imperial University of Yuryev was evacuated, which included one of the best university museums. The provincial city received a gift, which could not have been dreamed of: ancient Egyptian rarities, antique marbles and vases, works of Dutch, German, Italian masters. Arrived and experts, without which the museum exhibits would remain “mute” wonders.

Exposition of the exhibition “People and things. To the 100th anniversary of VGU “consists of three parts. The first section is devoted to the history of the Museum of Antiquities and Fine Arts. This is a kind of reconstruction of the expositions of the 1920s, in which many items are presented for the first time in 100 years.

In the modern exposition of the museum there is a large number of works from the university collection, which today are an important part of the museum collection. Within the framework of the exhibition, they are marked with special marks and constitute the second part of the exhibition project.

The third section is the presentation of the current museums of the university and their collections. At the heart of their existence are also the traditions of the Museum of Antiquities and Fine Arts, evacuated from Estonia. Today, these are independent structures with unique archaeological, geological, zoological and other collections that introduce a wide audience with various academic activities of the university.

How could a university collection exist and even replenish during the civil war and the formation of a new state? How and by whom were museums and traditions preserved? Who visited the museum at that difficult time?

“People and things. To the 100th anniversary of the VGU “is an exhibition-return, exhibition-reconstruction, exhibition-document, which briefly recreates the collection of one of the oldest university museums – the Museum of Antiquities and Fine Arts.

The exhibition will present more than 350 exhibits, including archeology, paintings, graphics, sculptures, arts and crafts, books, minerals, herbarium sheets and much more.

The exhibition will last until November 18, 2018.
