James Tissot, a French painter who lived most of his life in England, was born on October 15, 1836 in Nantes. He studied at the School of Fine Arts at Engr, and the influence of the master is felt in the early works of Tissot, however, having become acquainted and become friends with Edward Manet and Edgar Degas, the artist falls under the charm of impressionism. His paintings are full of air and light, the compositions are bold and dynamic, but he remains true to the chosen style.

Jam Tissot – a salon artist, master of genre portraits. His career rise was rapid – already 23 years after the participation in the Salon, he receives both wide recognition of the public and the favor of critics.

After the Franco-Prussian War, in which Tisso participated, under the threat of arrest, he was forced to emigrate to England, where he also had success as a portrait painter. His work is distinguished by genre, in Tissot we hardly find a classic portrait composition, his models are placed in a real modern author of the world, they rest, walk or read, but in no way pose. Thanks to the artist’s close attention to detail, Tissot can be called a Victorian singer.

In 1876 James Tissot met Kathleen Newton, whose image remained immortalized in many of his canvases. They lived together until 1882, right up to the death of Kathleen, she committed suicide. A young woman passed away at the age of 28, unable to bear the suffering of the last stage of tuberculosis.

After the death of Ketlin, Newton Tissot returned to Paris, and then made a long journey to Palestine, where he created a series of watercolors dedicated to the life of Jesus Christ.

James Tissot died on August 8, 1902 in Paris.
