24.08.1848 – 04.04.1886

Sculptor-animalist Eugene A. Lansere was born August 24, 1848 in Morshansk Tambov province.

The son of the state councilor Ludwig Paul Lansere and Eleonora Antonovna Jachymovskaya – the pupils of the barons Vornezius (who lived in Morshansk).

Already in his childhood, Eugene became interested in sculpture, and at the same time in his works he chose a theme that he was passionate about all his life-horses. Over time, the passion for animals resulted in numerous bronze works, which glorified the master to the whole world. A number of trips to Central Asia, the Caucasus and North Africa allowed the sculptor to add to his work many ethnic images.

The sculptor did not have a special artistic education. Thanks to the intuitive sense of the shape of objects and the ability to convey them in his works with incredible accuracy in 1872, Eugene Lansere receives from the Academy of Arts the title of class artist of the 1st degree. Two years later he was recognized as an honorary freelancer of the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1879 – a member of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers.

The artist died in his estate at the age of 37 from consumption. Despite the illness, Evgeni Lansere continued to create up to the last, and even went on horseback on his horse Kabarda during the periods of improvement.

During his short life, the sculptor created as many as not many can for a longer period (about 400 works). Eugene A. Lansere rightfully considered the founder of Russian cabinet plastic, thanks to which the Russian sculpture school became known throughout the world. Works of the master are presented in the largest museum of Russia and the National Art Museum of Belarus.
