On March 30 at 16:00 in the space of the large exhibition hall of the museum (second floor), the exhibition of the Russian portrait “Face. Face. Personality” from the collection of the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy.

Portrait, like no other genre of painting, reflects the historical epoch and socio-cultural processes inherent in time. The author of the portrait unwittingly conveys his personal attitude to the character, his worldview. The history of the Russian portrait is a kind of process of a person finding his face, embodying the character and individuality of a person on the canvas.

The exhibition will feature about 70 portraits, the chronology of which covers more than three centuries – from the XVIII century to the beginning of the XXI century. Visitors of the exhibition will be able to trace the path of development of the Russian portrait from the icon through the parsuna to the masterpieces of Rokotov, Tropinin, Kramskoy, Serov, Vasnetsov; to see the transformation of the portrait image performed by artists of the early twentieth century: Kiseleva, Falk, Milashevsky, Rusakov. The personality of a person of the Soviet era will appear on the canvases of Meshkov, Bogorodsky, Zeitlin, Eremenko. A different view of the image of a contemporary will be reflected in the works of artists of the 1960s-1980s: Romanovich, Khoroshilov, Neroslavsky, Loboda. And, finally, the stylistic diversity of portraits of the late XX–early XXI century will be represented by paintings by Savostyuk, Lavrov, Shcheglov, Zagorodnykh, Viktorov.

For the first time, visitors will be able to see portrait miniatures of the late XVIII – early XIX century.

The exhibition will run from March 30 to May 21, 2023.
