Presentation of Svetlana Stepanova's book "The Romantic Classicist Pyotr Vasilyevich Basin"

October 28 (Friday) at 16:00 the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy invites you to the presentation of Svetlana Stepanova’s book “The Romantic Classicist Pyotr Vasilyevich Basin”.

Svetlana Stepanova, Doctor of Art History, Chief specialist of the Tretyakov Gallery, will tell about the work on the book, how the publication of letters allowed to clarify some circumstances of the life of the “Russian colony” of artists and even lead to attribution discoveries.

Historical painter Pyotr Vasilyevich Basin (1793-1877), one of the best graduates of the Academy of Arts, and later its professor. In the 1820s, he was on an internship in Italy, joining the artistic environment of Rome, the capital of arts. Basin’s correspondence with his father vividly highlights the character of a young man, his romantic fascination with antiquity and classical Renaissance art, a sincere desire to achieve possible perfection in painting.

Svetlana Stepanovna Stepanova is a Russian art critic, senior researcher at the Department of Painting of the XVIII – first half of the XX century of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Professor of the Department of General History of Art of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, author of books on the history of Russian and Soviet art, Doctor of Art History (2009).
