Heroes of Russia. Yuri Anokhin

As part of the work on countering the ideology of terrorism, the I.N. Kramskoy Voronezh Regional Art Museum continues a series of online publications “Heroes of Russia” dedicated to the natives and residents of the Voronezh Region – Heroes of Russia who distinguished themselves in the fight against international terrorism.

Yuri Mikhailovich Anokhin (born June 19, 1956, Panikovets village, Kolpnyansky district, Oryol region, RSFSR, USSR) is a Soviet and then Russian special forces officer, a participant in two Chechen wars, a militia colonel.

Yuri Anokhin was born on June 19 , 1956 in the village Panikovets Kolpnyansky district Oryol region. He graduated from high school and the Bolkhov Pedagogical College, after which he worked as a physical education teacher at school. In 1976-1978 he served in the Marine Corps units. After demobilization, Anokhin entered the Faculty of Law Voronezh State University, from which he graduated in 1983. He was sent to serve in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, was an investigator, then an operative.

In 1992 Anokhin was appointed deputy head of the SOBR UBOP at the Department of Internal Affairs Voronezh region. He took part in several dozen operations to neutralize particularly dangerous criminals. Repeatedly went on combat missions, including to North Ossetia and Ingushetia. Participated in combat operations during the first Chechen war, was shell-shocked twice. In the fall of 1999 Anokhin arrived on his fourth business trip to Chechnya. In December of the same year, Anokhin led an operation to free a Russian pilot captured by Chechen separatists, during which his group suffered no losses, destroying several militants.

By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 633 of April 4, 2000, for “courage and heroism shown during the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus”, police Lieutenant Colonel Yuri Anokhin was awarded the high rank Hero of the Russian Federation with the award of the Gold Star medal.
