Ksenia Nikolaevna Uspenskaya is one of the most beloved Voronezh artists. For many decades, her work has been appreciated by art lovers for its vivid imagery, emotionality, poetry, and free manner of execution.

Ksenia Uspenskaya received her art education in Moscow after graduating from the Faculty of Artistic Ceramics of the Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts. Her teachers were Alexander Deineka, Pyotr Konchalovsky, and her educational work was favorably evaluated by Vera Mukhina and Alexander Gerasimov.

The works of Ksenia Uspenskaya were reproduced in school textbooks and on postcards, and the books illustrated by her are known to a wide range of readers. The textbook painting “They didn’t take fishing”, written in 1955, familiar to all older people from the textbook “Native Speech”, is kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery.

Since 1956, Ksenia Nikolaevna has been a member of the Voronezh branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR and a regular participant in numerous exhibitions. She successfully combined creativity with social, scientific and pedagogical activities. Being an associate professor of the Department of Agricultural Architecture of the Agricultural Academy, she worked as a member of various commissions of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, was repeatedly elected a deputy of the regional Council.

Since her student years, she chose portraiture as the main genre of her work, although she did not avoid landscapes and still lifes. Ksenia Uspenskaya created a whole gallery of portraits of contemporaries. In each of them she found a precise, expressive figurative and picturesque language. The artist is always attentive to the person, whether it is a portrait of a scientist, a teenager, a worker. Children’s portraits invariably charm with their sincerity and charm.

The exhibition includes about 80 paintings and drawings from the funds of the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy, as well as private collections of A. Kozlov, A. Kologrivov, R. Serebryansky and A. Gutorova.
