The 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I is a special event for the entire Voronezh region, because the history of our region is closely connected with the activities of the great reformer. Within the framework of the anniversary year, more than 300 events are planned in the Voronezh Region, 88 of which are major ones.

May 28 will be the main event of the anniversary year. The solemn celebration will take place at two sites in the city: Lenin Square and Admiralteyskaya Square.

The official opening ceremony of the celebration will take place on Lenin Square at 11:00. Scholarships named after Emperor Peter I will also be awarded here, designed to encourage students of Voronezh universities for special academic success. The opening ceremony will end with a concert program of the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army named after A. V. Alexandrov, a legendary Russian musical group that accurately reflects the spirit of Russian culture. The concert will take place as part of the implementation of the creative project “Peter’s Musical Assemblies”, organized by the Association “Valery Khalilov Winds Society” with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

After the official opening ceremony at 13:00, Voronezh residents are waiting for the premiere of the debut performance “Like Tsar Peter …” by the Voronezh Academic Street Theater – a project initiated by the Platonov Arts Festival. And at 14:00 there will be a performance by the Moscow Piping Orchestra. This is the first professional Scottish bagpipes and drums orchestra in Russia, founded by artistic director Artemy Vorobyov. Also on Lenin Square will be presented exhibitions of the blacksmithing art festival “Anchor”, the Museum of Forgotten Music and the club of historical reconstruction “Ascalon”. The sites will remain open until 4:00 pm.

On Admiralteyskaya Square at 21:00, residents and guests of the city will be presented with the opera “Vivat, Russia!” G. Stavonin, which premiered on May 20 and 21 on the stage of the Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theatre. The plot of the opera takes place in 1696, when soldiers of the Moscow, Semyonovsky and Preobrazhensky regiments arrive in Voronezh to start building the first Russian fleet. The opera will end with a laser show.

Also at 12:00 on the same day, the Spartak cinema will host a presentation of the animated film Adventures on Admiralteyskaya Square by the Wizart Animation studio. This is a 3D short film about the adventures of the Voronezh cat Vaska and his friend Bulka the puppy. In the cartoon, filmed with the support of the governor of the Voronezh region, the crow will send the heroes to the era when Emperor Peter I was just starting to build the first regular Russian navy on the Voronezh River.

All events within the framework of the solemn celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I will be free of charge.
