November 17 at 12.00 in the VOKhM them. I.N. Kramskoy within the framework of the exhibition “Wanderers. Truth of Life “will host an online lecture” Singer of Beauty. Konstantin Makovsky “, dedicated to the life and work of an outstanding Russian artist of the second half of the 19th century, a member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, a brilliant portrait painter, a master of historical and genre painting and one of the highest paid artists of the era.
The work of Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky (1839-1915) has not yet been studied and appreciated properly. Many accused him of embellishing reality, of apostasy from the realistic ideas of the Wanderers, of the monotony of plots and themes. But, at the same time, Konstantin Makovsky, a representative of the famous noble dynasty of artists, was the favorite painter of Emperor Alexander II and one of the most demanded artists of Western collectors.
Lecturer – Senior Researcher of the Valery Meremianin Museum.
