Ilya Mashkov is a rebellious artist, a paradox artist, a master whose brush is used to paint the era. An admirer of old European masters, a student of A. Vasnetsov, V. Serov and K. Korovin, he was at the same time one of the founders of the “Jack of Diamonds” society. Overthrowing the previous academic foundations, I.I. Mashkov was confidently engaged in teaching activities. Having the broadest cultural outlook, the painter was a native of the common people, the connection with which was never interrupted. A rebel and provocateur before the revolution, Ilya Ivanovich managed to fit perfectly into Soviet artistic life. These and other paradoxes of the creative biography, as well as little-known facts of the master’s life, will be covered in the lecture.
