The museum continues a series of exhibitions of drawings under the general title “Opening Funds”, which are presented in the halls of the permanent exhibition, which thematically and substantively complement it.

The second exhibition of the cycle, which will begin work on March 17, will show graphic works of the salon-academic art.

Russian art of the second half of the 19th century developed in the confrontation and at the same time mutual influence of two leading directions: realistic and academic. Different understanding of the tasks of art gave tension and diversity to the artistic life of Russia in the 19th century.

Masters of academic and salon art were called “carefree artists” by their opponents, the Wanderers, since social problems and psychological conflicts, the dark sides of reality, did not fascinate these masters. Academists believed that art is designed to raise a person above the prose of life, to distract from the boredom of everyday life, to enlighten and delight at the same time. All genres fell into the sphere of interest of this art: historical and everyday life, still life and landscape, portrait. The main themes were mythological plots and compositions in the Russian style.

The graphic works of artists of the salon-academic style are distinguished by the elaboration of the composition, the perfection of the drawing, attention to the anatomy and technique of execution, since they were sensitive to the rules and traditions, and their art required great knowledge and craftsmanship. At the same time, their art, combining elements of different artistic trends and methods, bears the features of eclecticism.

The exhibition will feature drawings by Konstantin Makovsky, Henryk Semiradsky, Lev Lagorio, Alexander Egornov, Nikolai Dmitriev-Orenburgsky, Pyotr Sokolov, Nikolai Sverchkov and Pavel Shipov. There are about 10 graphic works in total.
