May 19 at 15.00 hours in the VOKHM them. I.N. Kramsky will host the lecture El Greco: Crete, Venice, Toledo.

Lecturer: Senior Researcher Vokhm im. I.N. Kramskoy – Valery Shakin.

The lecture will tell about the last of the Titans of the Renaissance – Domenikos Theotokopoulos, nicknamed El Greco.
A native of the island of Crete, the heir to the iconographic traditions and a humanistically educated person, El Greco, created his own artistic language. Byzantine spirituality coexisted here with the delights of Venetian colorism, and the exaltation of Roman mannerism with genuine Spanish affectation.

The art of El Greco burst into the Spanish artistic tradition swiftly and imperiously, turned out to be only a bright flash and quickly forgotten. The artist, who did not leave behind worthy followers during his lifetime, gained them, influencing Delacroix, Manet, Cezanne, Picasso, Jackson Pollack.

The lecture starts on May 5th. Call by phone: +7 (473) 255-50-81.

Limited number of seats.
