Rombouts, Theodore.

Theodore Rombouts-Dutch painter, famous paintings in the style of Caravaggio. The future artist was born July 2, 1597 in Antwerp.

Theodore studied painting with Frans van Lankveld and then with Abraham Jansens the Elder. These masters helped the young artist to reveal your extraordinary talent for painting. The master traveled a lot. In 1617 he went to Rome, where he painted several historical paintings, and then moved to Florence.

In 1625, the painter returned to Flanders, 2 years later he was accepted by the master in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke, in which he was a petty officer until 1630.

As a contemporary of Rubens, Rombouts did not come under his influence, but rather imitated Michelangelo da Caravaggio.

The works of Theodore Rombouts are always well-arranged, differ in fidelity of drawing, carefully executed, and the special originality of his painting gives sharpness of color. The master painted historical and allegorical paintings, genre scenes, as well as imitating Italian masters, portrayed singers, card players and charlatans.

The artist died in 1637 at home in Antwerp.
