June 4, 2018 in the department of literature on art of the Belgorod State Scientific Library opened an exhibition “Voronezh Front” (from the collection of the VGM named after I. Kramskoy).

The exhibition presents objective artistic documents of the true history of the Voronezh tragedy in the period from June 1942 to March 1943 by Moscow artists Vladimir Bogatkin and Vitaly Demidov.

Quick brush strokes, torn color spots – these circumstances required artists to make an exact and immediate decision in order to achieve a true and expressive picture. They can be compared with the diary entries of those years – steep, hasty, but best conveying the reality of the experience.

In 2008, Voronezh was awarded the honorary title “City of Military Glory”. This glory he deserved at the cost of terrible inhuman efforts and numerous victims. And who will say that out of all the numerous military “chronicles” of Voronezh, these little yellowed sheets of graphics are less significant and important? After all, they are made by front-line artists, witnesses of fierce and bloody battles for the city. At that time, they became chroniclers, and their scattered drawings now form in the history of the fate of the city that defeated the death.
