11.06.1776 – 31.03.1837

June 11, 1766 was born English artist, master of romantic landscape John Constable. Most often in his works you can see the views of Suffolk, where he was from. John’s father was a prosperous miller and was extremely negative about his son’s drawing.

In 1799 Constable decided to ask his father to let him devote his life to art, leaving work in the mill, and, to his surprise, receives consent – his younger brother lived up to the expectations of their parents and continued the family business. And John Constable in the same year entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in London.

Constable worked a lot and regularly exhibited, however, his homeland for his talent was not appreciated. English criticism drew attention to the artist only after one of his works received not only a gold medal at the exhibition in France, but also enthusiastic reviews of the authoritative Theodore Gericault. However, despite this hassle, the deplorable financial situation of the artist’s family has not changed, since Constable refuses to work abroad, not wanting to leave his homeland.

In 1837, John Constable dies of a heart attack. During his life in England, he managed to sell only 12 of his works, in France – 4 times more. Today Constable’s works are adorned with the most authoritative museums in Europe and America. In the world of art his work is a recognized standard of harmony, emotionality and true natural beauty.
