Lagorio Lev Feliksovich

Lev Feliksovich Lagorio, one of the most famous Russian marine painters, was born in Feodosia in the family of a merchant descended from an aristocratic Genoese clan.

In 1839-1840, Lagorio studied at the workshop of Aivazovsky in Feodosia. In 1842 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts.

During his studies at the Academy, Lev Lagorio sailed on the military frigate “The Wrecker”, in 1946 sailed along the shores of the Gulf of Finland. Over the years of his apprenticeship, Lagorio was awarded not less than once: gold and silver medals. In 1851 the artist was sent on a trip to the Caucasus.

At the end of the Academy in 1852, Lagorio went on a retirement trip to Europe, during which he visited France and Italy. The paintings brought Lagorio from the trip, were highly appreciated, and in 1860 the artist received the title of professor.

Since 1861, the artist has been to the Caucasus more than once. In 1885, Lagorio received an order for a series of paintings on the Russian-Turkish war and repeatedly visited the theater of operations. In addition, the artist periodically undertook trips around Russia and abroad. Summer preferred the mariner in his workshop in Sudak.
