On the eve of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory on April 24 at 16.00 in the exhibition hall of the Voronezh Regional Art Museum named after. The exhibition “Trench art” will be opened dedicated to this significant date. The author of the exposition is the military historian and search engine, the head of the student search team, Alexander Kuryanov. The project is supported by the Department of Culture of the Voronezh Region.

The Second World War brought untold disasters to many peoples of the world. Millions of people were drawn into fierce battles. Among the numerous evidences of that war, the author singled out subjects of “trench art”. It is about the products created by soldiers on both front lines – hand-made articles, art canvases with drawings on bowlers, cups, spoons, cigarette cases, wooden boards of shell boxes with scenes of military and peaceful life, self-portraits, faces of loved ones, mottos, love messages, memorable inscriptions, symbols, etc. The life of a soldier at the front was often measured in minutes, as the fighting could flow, rapidly moving over long distances. Hence the roughness of the handicrafts, the images put on them, which does not detract from the expressiveness of the soldier’s drawings.

The “trench art” clearly shows the attitude of man to the war and to the world as a whole. This peculiar “cultural” side of the war is unique. The objects of “trench” art were authored, created once, in many cases with not repetitive plots and texts on them.

Since 2005 A.Kuryanov conducted research work on collection and systematization of trench art objects of the second world. The exposition includes genuine finds of search engines from private and museum collections, photographs of objects executed by soldiers – our soldiers who fervently believed in the Victory and crafts of soldiers of opponents who marked the conquerors’ path on them with drawings, which ended in an inglorious end.

The exhibition will last until May 24. The cost of admission is 50-100 rubles.
