June 3, 2015 at 16.00 in the framework of the Fifth Platonic Festival in the VOKHM them. I.N. Kramskoy for the first time in Voronezh will open an exhibition of paintings and graphics by Pavel Filonov. From the funds of the State Russian Museum will be presented 43 works of the artist. Among which very rarely exhibited the schedule of the 30-ies.

The name of the exhibition was formed from a quotation from the artist’s diary, who wrote that the artist should be a “worker of Izo” (Diary of 1934), since Filonov himself worked 18 hours a day.

Filonov created a group of “Masters of Analytical Art” (MAI), which lasted until his death. He did not take orders, he taught for free, receiving a pension of a scientific worker of the 3rd class.

Pavel Filonov saw depth in the very nature of humanity, he treated with extraordinary sensitivity all life’s vicissitudes and expressed his emotions in the plot of avant-garde art, which seemed exceptional and unparalleled.

Art historians note the consonance of the creative motives of Pavel Filonov and Andrei Platonov. In addition to color and form, the artist marked a whole world of phenomena invisible to the eye, which can be understood by intuition and experience. His art appears closed, located in the so-called “Filonov’s space”, where there is a lot of mystery, but at the same time it is a world, a body, a space that is open in its invisible being. Filonov does not break away from nature, leaving in the world of simulacra and intuition, but seeks to comprehend it, analyzing every slightest manifestation of it in indispensable development.

The bright, ambiguous and multifaceted work of Pavel Filonov still attracts the human eye and does not give an opportunity to indifferently pass by his paintings, not inculcating in himself attempts to understand that utopian, but harmoniously intertwined world of the artist.

Pavel Filonov died in the besieged Leningrad in 1941.

The exhibition will run until July 5th.
