The legacy of Peter ‘s time
In June 2022, the whole country celebrated the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great, the first Russian emperor, a state reformer of the XVII-XVIII centuries. The historical and cultural heritage of Peter the Great occupies a special place in Russian history. In the Petrine era, state control bodies, a regular army and navy were created in Russia, the country was divided into provinces, Russian industry was founded, a new capital was built – St. Petersburg, the Academy of Sciences was established, the first educational institutions and the first museum were opened.

The large-scale changes of today find parallels with the era of Peter the Great, and therefore, more than ever, it is appropriate to recall the deeds and legacy of the emperor, who essentially created modern Russia.

At the exhibition “Peter I. Memorable places of the Voronezh region” presents the works of photographer Alexander Savchuk, whose activity in the field of preservation of cultural heritage has been almost 17 years. During this time, the author has published several books on architectural monuments of Russia and completed many projects.

Alexander Savchuk’s first acquaintance with the Petrovsky theme took place in 2018 at the VII St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. Meetings with the director of the D.S. Likhachev Foundation Alexander Valeryevich Kobak and the head of the Peter the Great Institute Inna Feliksovna Sviderskaya marked the beginning of his participation in the Internet project “The Arch of Peter’s Monuments of Russia and Europe”, which has been going on for more than 10 years.

During these four years, the author has filmed more than 400 Peter’s Monuments in 30 regions of Russia from Solovki to Astrakhan and from the Leningrad region to Tatarstan. About 150 Peter’s Monuments of Moscow, captured by the photographer, were included in the first volume of the historical and cultural encyclopedia “Peter’s Monuments of Russia, Moscow”, which was released for the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great. In total, five volumes are planned for release.

The purpose of this photo exhibition is to convey to the viewer, from schoolchildren to the older generation, the architectural heritage of the Petrovsky time of our Voronezh region. These are monuments to Peter the Great himself, manors, shipyards, monasteries, temples and other historical architectural objects. And we should all be proud of this and cherish it.

The exhibition will last until December 23, 2022.
